History

Since its beginnings in 1893, the Medical College of Wisconsin has been a hub for ground-breaking research leading to medical advances and breakthroughs. Today, MCW is a major national research center and the second-largest research institution in the state of Wisconsin.

In fiscal year 2016 alone, MCW conducted more than 3,100 research studies, including clinical trials, and reported 50 new discoveries and inventions. MCW’s overall portfolio includes 227 technologies covered by more than 286 pending and issued U.S. and foreign patents, and 63 technology license agreements with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, imaging, medical device and software companies.
